Question

How does Paul Atreides change throughout the book? Did he mature at all throughout the course of the book, or did he act like an adult from beginning to end?

  1. The way I see it, Paul had always had some adult-like mentality about him. From thinking everything over logically, being well advanced in his reasoning, and of course, physically powerful with the "Weirding Way" his mother taught him. Maturity shows itself in many ways, however.

  2. I see it somewhat like Zac.... the fact is that Paul has always deep inside him had these mental abilities the turning point is when the training engages almost a survival instinct in Paul and everything becomes crystal clear about not only the legends of a "savior" but also in everything around him

  3. I think that Paul is an adult from the beginning of the book. However from the point that he learns that his father died and throughout the rest of the book he becomes something more than just an adult, Paul becomes a leader. He is forced to put a group of peoples needs in front of his own and that is what changes Paul.

  4. I agree with Mallory I also thing that Paul was very mature from the beginning starting with the gom jabber unlike a normal 15 year old he is able to mentally close out the pain because he knows it is vital. Throughout the book he continues to show how wise he is and also gain leadership through the many situations he goes through and obstacles he faces.
